How Do Siri Suggestions Work?
20 ways Siri Can Help You Be More Productive
The Apple Siri Suggestion feature lets Siri recommend content from specific apps when you perform a search on your device, arrive at a distinct location, or attempt to launch apps during particular times of the day. This is accomplished by carefully analyzing how you use your device and then making appropriate suggestions.
While all analyzing is done locally on your device, and thus allows for greater privacy, you might find the feature bothersome and opt to turn it off or customize it for your own experience.

Siri Suggestions on iPhone
Siri makes suggestions for what you might want to do next, such as call into a meeting or confirm an appointment, based on your routines and how you use your apps.
For example, Siri might help when you do any of the following:
Glance at the Lock Screen or start a search: As Siri learns your routines, you get suggestions for just what you need, at just the right time.
Create email and events: When you start adding people to an email or calendar event, Siri suggests the people you included in previous emails or events.
Receive calls: If you get an incoming call from an unknown number, Siri lets you know who might be calling—based on phone numbers included in your emails.
Leave for an event: If your calendar event includes a location, Siri assesses traffic conditions and notifies you when to leave.
Type: As you enter text, Siri can suggest names of movies, places—anything you viewed on iPhone recently. If you tell a friend you’re on your way, Siri can even suggest your estimated arrival time.
Search in Safari: Siri suggests websites and other information in the search field as you type.
Above the keyboard, Siri also suggests words and phrases based on what you were just reading.
Confirm an appointment or book a flight on a travel website: Siri asks if you want to add it to your calendar.
Read News stories: As Siri learns which topics you’re interested in, they’ll be suggested in News.

Your personal information—which is encrypted and remains private—stays up to date across all your devices where you’re signed in with the same Apple ID. To Make Suggestions and Search Results More Relevant, Some Information Is Sent to Apple and Not Associated with You
When you use Siri Suggestions, Look Up, Visual Look Up, or type in Search, Spotlight, Safari search, or #images search in Messages, any information sent to Apple does not identify you, and is associated with a 15-minute random, rotating device-generated identifier. Your device may send information such as location, topics of interest (for example, cooking or basketball), your search queries, including visual search queries, suggestions you have selected, apps you use, and related device usage data to Apple. This information does not include search results that show files or content on your device. If you subscribe to music or video subscription services, the names of these services and the type of subscription may be sent to Apple. Your account name, number, and password will not be sent to Apple.
This information is used to process your request and provide more relevant suggestions and search results, and is not linked to your Apple ID, email address, or other data Apple may have from your use of other Apple services.
Aggregated information may be used to improve other Apple products and services. Common search queries may be shared with a web search engine to improve search results.
Search Engine Suggestions in Safari
Safari has a single field for searches and web addresses so you can browse the web from one convenient place. When Search Engine Suggestions are enabled, Safari will ask your selected search engine for suggestions based on what you’ve typed.
Preload Top Hit in Safari
With Preload Top Hit enabled, as soon as Safari determines a Top Hit based on your bookmarks and browsing history, Safari will begin loading the webpage in the background. If you disable this option, the page will load normally.
You Have Choice and Control
If you do not want Siri Suggestions to send your information to Apple, you can disable Siri Suggestions in Search and Siri Suggestions in Look Up or Visual Look Up by going to Settings > Siri & Search and tapping to turn off Suggestions While Searching. To disable Safari Suggestions, go to Settings > Safari and tap to turn off Safari Suggestions.
You can see and control the full list of features that Siri personalizes and apps that Siri suggests shortcuts for in Settings > Siri & Search. To stop apps from contributing information to personalize Siri, go to Settings > Siri & Search and tap the app name, then tap to turn off Learn from this App. To stop app clips from contributing information to personalize Siri, go to Settings > Siri & Search > App Clips and tap to turn off Learn from App Clips. You can also control whether Siri can send you suggestions on the lock screen for each app by going to Settings > Siri & Search and tapping to turn off Suggestions on Lock Screen.
You can disable Location Services for Siri Suggestions in Search by going to Settings > Privacy > Location Services > System Services and tapping Location-Based Suggestions to turn off Location Services. If you turn off Location Services on your device, your location will not be sent to Apple. To deliver relevant suggestions, Apple may use the IP address of your internet connection to approximate your location by matching it to a geographic region.
If you do not want Siri personalization to sync across your devices, you can disable Siri by going to Settings > [your name] > iCloud and tapping to turn off Siri.

After some initial confusion about the iOS 10 lock screen, I find myself frequently using iOS 10's lock-screen widgets to check my calendar, a sports score or the weather -- all without needing to unlock my phone. One lock screen even lets me quickly call home or text my wife. (Check out the 10 widgets that belong on your lock screen.)
With all these widgets helping me out, Siri App Suggestions -- the two rows of "suggested" apps that appear on the lock screen -- are unnecessary. Here's how to remove them.
Remove Siri App Suggestions from lock screen
The Siri App Suggest widget is enabled by default in iOS 10. Thankfully, it's just a widget, so removing it is easy.
You can't remove or rearrange widgets on a locked phone, so unlock your phone and swipe to the right on your home screen to view your widgets. Next, scroll to the bottom and tap the Edit button. You'll see a list of your widgets at the top and another list below of other widgets you can add to the lock screen.
Find Siri App Suggestions in the list and tap the red button on the left and then tap Remove on the right to remove it from the list. Don't forget to tap Done in the upper-right corner to save your changes.
Remove Siri App Suggestions from search screen
When you pull down on the home screen (or any other screen of your app icons), you call up the search screen. Below the search bar is the same Siri App Suggestions as you'll find on the lock-screen widget. If you don't use this to launch apps, you can disable it.
Go to Settings > General > Spotlight Search and tap to turn off the toggle switch at the top for Siri Suggestions. With it disabled, you'll see just the search bar and nothing else on the search screen.
