A fun 3-ingredient slime recipe for kids, this Sparkly Pink Glitter Slime is perfect for some rainy day sensory play or a birthday thank you gift.

An easy 3-ingredient slime recipe using Elmer's pink glitter glue, baking soda and contact solution. This fun slime recipe is a great sensory play material for Valentine's or little princesses. A great princess birthday party gift, too.

Pink Glitter Slime Recipe

Slime is a regular thing at our house and while I love getting creative and adding some crazy mix-ins (like with our gold foil slime or crunchy snowcone slime) – a straightforward 3-ingredient slime is sometimes just what we need for some quick sensory play.

This easy pink glitter slime recipe is so incredibly easy to whip up that the video in the post shows my 7 year old making it! (With supervision of course.)

You can also add a bit of shaving cream to transform this simple slime into a fluffy slime, and if your slime turns out too hard you can knead in some water to loosen it up. I love that slime allows kids to experiment and notice different changes in the physical properties, a great introduction to scientific concepts.

This pink glitter slime would be perfect for any sparkly, princess-loving child – or as a special Valentine’s Day surprise! It would be super cute to get a few tiny containers and make a double or triple batch of the slime to divide up and give to slime-loving friends. (You can also grab some circular labels and make a cute label for the containers.)

Slime can require a bit of experimentation and patience, especially if you’re still new to it. If you run into any slime fails, check out this troubleshooting post to help fix your slime.

Tip: I highly recommend grabbing a couple of these sturdy plastic lunch trays. I use these for almost all of our craft or kitchen activities, as well as in our Montessori practical life activities. Ours have lasted for over 6 years and are still going strong, plus they are so great for containing messes and allowing the kids to set a project to the side while it dries (or if you have to clear off the table for supper).

How to make glitter slime

Kids are weird. One minute they're obsessively watching surprise egg videos and bugging you to buy them Shopkins, and the next they are bottle flipping at the kitchen table. The latest youtube craze though, is one I can get on board with.

Slime!

Squishy, squashy, shiny slime. Videos of people making slime, poking slime, stretching slime and even covering toys in slime have been sweeping the net for the last couple of months and the seemingly innocuous videos are easily racking up millions of views. I can kind of see why...

slime capture

Source: youtube

Just look at it, it's so shiny...  All the squishing and squashing and stretching is kind of hypnotic. You can lose track of time watching it. (It actually took me an hour to write that sentence because I got hypnotised by a video, true story.) Plus, it's a great sensory play activity for young children which will boost their development while having fun.

Here's how to make your own!

We are so into slime that we decided to have a go at making our own. We're pretty proud of the result and it's been a big hit with everyone's kids. Why not try it yourself? You can easily find the ingredients at your local supermarket.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup Glitter glue
  • 1/2 cup cold water
  • 5 tbsp Borax laundry detergent (found in the cleaning aisle of supermarkets)
  • 1/2 cup of hot water (just off the boil)

This DIY Glitter Slime Recipe Is So Simple, But Totally Mesmerizing

Keeping your kids entertained this summer is easy with DIY crafts courtesy of Camp Romper. For starters, this recipe for Mesmerizing Glitter Slime is so sparkly and squishy that your kids will want to make a batch in every color under the sun. They’re already playing with gobs of slime anyway, so why not add an extra layer of fun by letting them get a little messy and make some sparkly fun of their own?

This simple (and super pretty) slime recipe uses just five safe, kid-friendly ingredients that you probably already have at home. It’s easy enough for your kids to make themselves, and because the recipe uses minimal ingredients, they can make several batches in a variety of colors. Kids can use their imaginations to create galactic slime in colors like green, blue, and purple, or unicorn slime that’s pink, yellow, and shimmery. The possibilities are endless.

Follow along with the video and recipe below to see just how easy this DIY slime recipe is for kids. With activities like these to help you savor every single moment of summer, you can rest assured that your kids won’t complain about being bored. (At least not too much!)

Mesmerizing Glitter Slime Recipe

  • 1/2 cup clear school glue
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons colorful, biodegradable glitter
  • 3 drops plant-based food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 or 2 tablespoons saline solution (must contain boric acid and sodium borate)

Instructions:

1. In a medium mixing bowl, stir together water and glue with a spoon.

2. Pour glitter into the bowl and continue mixing.

3. Add three drops of food coloring.

4. Stir in baking soda.

5. Add 1 tablespoon of saline solution and continue mixing until the slime starts to form.

6. Continue to stir the mixture in the bowl. Add additional saline solution and baking soda until the slime reaches a consistency where you can pick it up in your hands.

7. Start to knead the slime in your hands for about five minutes. The slime will use oils and heat from your hands in order to form. Continue kneading until the slime stops sticking to your hands.

8. Once slime is able to form a round shape, place it in a bowl and let rest for 10 minutes.

9. Play and enjoy!

Glitter, either you hate it or love it! If you hate it, you find it stuck in odd places. If you love it, you find it stuck to odd places. We LOVE glitter and we love sharing our favorite sparkly glitter slime recipe with you!

MAKE GLITTER SLIME

Learn how to make sparkly slime for the ultimate slime making experience.  No, the glitter doesn’t fall out of the slime! That’s actually a common reader question.  I can’t speak for the glitter before it makes it into the slime mixing bowl, but once incorporated you are all set!

Oh and slime is science too, so don’t miss the great information on the science of slime below.  Watch our awesome slime videos and see how easy it is to make the best glittery slime!

GLITTER GLUE VS. CLEAR GLUE

I’m not a huge fan of the pre-made glitter glue, so I essentially make my own. I find the glitter glue you can buy for slime making results in a slime less stretchy and more crumbly then I would like. So I use my versatile gallon jug of clear glue to make glitter slime instead.  All you need is glitter and lots of it!

I have a lot of information packed into this page so read carefully! You will find a FREE printable recipes cheat sheet at the end of this page along with lots of helpful resources.

Now we have a specific recipe for glitter glue slime that works well!

BASIC SLIME RECIPES

All of our holiday, seasonal, and everyday slime recipes use one of five basic slime recipesthat are super easy to make! We make slime all the time, and these have become our go-to favorite slime recipes!

Glitter slime can be made easily with any of our basic recipes, but the saline solution slime recipe  saline solution slime recipe below is my favorite!

Slime with saline solution is one of our favorite sensory play recipes!  We make it ALL the time because it is so quick and easy to whip up.   Four simple ingredients {one is water} are all you need.  Add color, glitter, sequins, and then you are done!

Where do I buy saline solution?

We pick up our saline solution in the grocery store! You can also find it on Amazon, Walmart, Target, and even at your pharmacy.

Now if you don’t want to use saline solution, you can absolutely test out one of our other basic recipes using liquid starch or borax powder. We have tested all these recipes with equal success!

HOST A SLIME MAKING PARTY AT HOME OR SCHOOL!

I always thought slime was too difficult to make, but then I tried it! Now we are hooked on it. Grab some saline solution, PVA glue and glitter and get started! We have even made glitter slime with a small group of kids for a slime party!  This glitter slime recipe below also makes a great slime to use in the classroom!

HOW DOES SLIME WORK?

We always like to include a bit of homemade slime science around here!  Slime is an excellent chemistry demonstration and kids love it too!   Mixtures, substances, polymers, cross-linking, states of matter, elasticity, and viscosity are just a few of the science concepts that can be explored with homemade slime!

What’s slime science all about?  The borate ions in the slime activators (sodium borate, borax powder, or boric acid) mix with the PVA (polyvinyl acetate) glue and forms this cool stretchy substance. This is called cross-linking!

The glue is a polymer and is made up of long, repeating, and identical strands or molecules. These molecules with flow past one another keeping the glue in a liquid state. Until…

You add the borate ions to the mixture,  and it then starts to connect these long strands together. They begin to tangle and mix until the substance is less like the liquid you started with and thicker and rubbery like slime! Slime is a polymer.

Picture the difference between wet spaghetti and leftover spaghetti the next day. As the slime forms, the tangled molecule strands are much like the clump of spaghetti!

Is slime a liquid or solid?

We call it a Non-Newtonian fluid because it’s a little bit of both!  Experiment with making the slime more or less viscous with varying amounts of foam beads. Can you change the density?

Did you know that slime aligns with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)?

It does and you can use slime making to explore states of matter and its interactions. Find out more below…

GLITTER SLIME RECIPE

INGREDIENTS FOR GLITTER SLIME:

  • 1/2 cup Clear PVA School Glue
  • 1 tablespoon Saline Solution (must contain boric acid and sodium borate)
  • 1/2 cup of Water
  • 1/4-1/2 tsp Baking Soda
  • Food coloring
  • Glitter

HOW TO MAKE GLITTER SLIME:

STEP 1:  In a bowl mix 1/2 cup water and 1/2 cup of glue well to combine completely.

STEP 2: Now’s the time to add the glitter. You can never add too much glitter! Mix into the glue and water mixture.

GLITTER SLIME TIP: We like to use a mix of fine, tinsel, regular, and chunky glitter for a super glitter effect. You can easily add an ounce jar of glitter or more to slime. Hint, we stock up at the dollar store when we can.

Additionally, you can choose to use food coloring that coordinates with your glitter.  This one here we did not use any coloring and the glitter is intense!  If you choose to use food coloring, I would limit it to a drop or two.  You don’t want the slime to end up looking too dark.

Below you can see three different shades of pink/purple glitter that we added to our glue and water mixture.how to make glitter slime

STEP 3: Stir in 1/4- 1/2 tsp baking soda.

Baking soda helps to firm and form the slime. You can play around with how much you add but we prefer between 1/4 and 1/2 tsp per batch. I get asked all the time why do you need baking soda for slime. Baking soda helps to improve the firmness of the slime. You can experiment with your own ratios!

STEP 4: Mix in 1 tbsp saline solution and stir until slime forms and pulls away from sides of the bowl.   This is exactly how much you will need with the Target Sensitive Eyes brand, but other brands may differ slightly!

If your slime still feels too sticky, you may need a few more drops of saline solution. As I mentioned above, start by squirting a few drops of the solution onto your hands and kneading your slime longer. You can always add but you can’t take away.  Saline solution is preferred over contact solution.

glitter slime that is fun to play with

STEP 5:  Start kneading your slime! It will appear stringy at first but just work it around with your hands and you will notice the consistency changes. You can also put it in a clean container and set it aside for 3 minutes, and you will also notice the change in consistency!

STORING YOUR GLITTER SLIME

Once you learn how to make glitter slime or any slime in general, you want to keep it stored properly with a good seal, so it keeps as much as stretch as possible!

Slime lasts quite awhile!  I get a lot of questions regarding how I store my slime. We use reusable containers in either plastic or glass. Make sure to keep your slime clean and it will last for several weeks. I love the deli style containers in my recommended slime supplies list here.

If you want to send kids home with a bit of slime from a camp, party, or classroom project, I would suggest packages of reusable containers from the dollar store or grocery store or even Amazon. For large groups we have used condiment containers as seen here.

Galaxy Slime

Have you noticed that many stores have a “slime section” lately? Whether it’s labeled as such or not, craft stores and grocery stores alike usually have a shelf or display filled with glue, glitter, and even activators like contact solution and liquid starch!

On one of our most recent Target trips, we couldn’t resist stocking up on all kinds of glitter glues and sequins. We’ve been using them for lots of different slime recipes!

My choice was black glitter glue because I knew it would be just perfect to make Midnight Galaxy Slime!

This glittery, glow in the dark Galaxy Slime is absolutely mesmerizing! And so easy to make! Click for video tutorial!

What is Galaxy Slime?

Galaxy Slime is sort of a catch-all term for slime recipes that remind you of outer space. Deep blues, purples, and even black colored slimes set the stage of the night sky, then are mixed with sparkling glitter and sequins to resemble stars.

There’s no “right” way to make Galaxy Slime – but some recipes are more complicated than others.

For our Galaxy Slime, we use a simple 2-ingredient slime recipe base, then added our glittery mix-ins. Since we used black glue as our base, we labeled it “midnight” slime.

The pictures don’t even do it justice – this slime is gorgeous!

Once our Galaxy Slime was ready, we added a batch of our Glow in the Dark Slime so it would really light up!

Here’s a behind-the-scenes look of my daughter and I making our glow in the dark galaxy slime recipe video:

making a galaxy slime recipe video

For your convenience in re-creating our galactic slime recipe, we’ve included shop-able ad links to some of the products we used. Our disclosure policy is available here.

What are the Ingredients for Galaxy Slime?

TIP: Don’t have liquid starch on hand? You can also make our Galaxy Slime using our contact solution slime recipe!

This glittery, glow in the dark Galaxy Slime is absolutely mesmerizing! And so easy to make! Click for video tutorial!

What are the three steps to make slime?

Every glue-based slime recipe has three basic steps:

  1. Pour glue into a mixing bowl. If using white glue, this is where you’d add food coloring. If using a glitter or colored glue, you likely won’t need any additional dyes.
  2. Add your activator. In this particular recipe, we used liquid starch because it’s super easy and one simple ingredient! You might also see baking soda + contact lens solution used as a slime activator.
  3. Mix! If using any sequins or glitter (like in our space slime) you’d add them here.

How to Make Galactic Glitter Slime

The first step is to make a batch of liquid starch slime using black glitter glue. See below:

GET THE RECIPE: Now head over to our Liquid Starch Slime Recipe for full step-by-step instructions!

how to make galaxy slime with liquid starch

TIP: Skip the generic brands of glue and stick to name brands. We find that generic glue formulas don’t usually work as well (or at all).

mixing sequins into galaxy slime

Once you’ve whipped up your black glitter slime, you’ll notice that it has kind of a purple color too it, like you’d imagine deep space to be! Then you can add in more glitter or sequins to complete your sparkly galactic space slime!

The black glue has silver glitter and when the light hits it, looks like purple glitter too! Then we added purple, teal, and silver sequins to get the perfect color scheme.

To get that super cool glowing effect, we also made a batch of our Glow in the Dark Slime and mixed the two together! You can make this glow in the dark slime with Elmer’s Magical Liquid or with the liquid starch recipe here.
