  • Is reliability and durability compromised in any way by adding a Nizpro 450s Supercharger to a naturally aspirated engine?

The Yamaha V6 4.2L is an extremely well engineered product.

In its highest production level (300HP), it makes a mere 71hp per litre at 6,000 rpm maximum engine speed.

The standard Yamaha V6 4.2L is also engineered as standard with high quality connecting rods, oil cooled pistons and a compression ratio low enough that it is the perfect platform for forced induction(supercharging).

During our own durability testing program, Nizpro tested well beyond the 450hp power level using higher rpm and substantially higher boost pressures to ensure no compromise to the Yamaha V6 4.2L reliability and durability. Of course, routine and regular scheduled maintenance must be carried out to maintain overall outboard integrity and peak performance.

  • Is reliability and durability compromised by Reflashing my Yamaha engine?

    No!

Reflashing or tuning is about taking a great product and refining it.

We do NOT tune to the limits of the engine, we optimise the existing performance without impacting reliability.

    Pros
    Additional hp, no extra weight
    Additional torque, no extra weight
Improved fuel economy, from lower RPM

  • Is my standard lower unit strong enough to handle the hp upgrade?

    ABSOLUTELY!
The standard Yamaha V6 4.2L lower unit is both strong and durable.

That’s why we chose them when we started looking at developing high performance products for marine.

Nizpro Marine recommends regular scheduled maintenance and high quality lubricants to ensure long term reliability. Correct fuel octane is also critical.

If the engine has been Supercharged and is used for racing, Nizpro recommends upgrading to a Nizpro hand built, heavy duty lower unit with fat shaft, heavy duty bearing carrier and even bespoke nose cones.

  • World class production and manufacturing partners deliver a world class product.

From the initial design concept of the Nizpro 450s supercharger package for the Yamaha VMax SHO and Offshore 4.2 litre V6 engine, Nizpro chose to partner with Harrop Engineering and Eaton Corporation.
Harrop for their product design and production capabilities and Eaton Corporation to utilise their TVS Supercharger Technology.

Nizpro decided that working in partnership with the best OEM partners would ensure outstanding product performance and reliability and now 8 years later, that has proven to be exactly the case.

  • Fuel Requirements

Nizpro recommend the best quality fuel for all Yamaha engines to optimise performance and all of our performance products are developed on 98 Australian RON.

The Nizpro 450s Supercharger requires the following fuel for maximum performance:

    • 91 USA pump octane,  98 Australian RON octane89 USA pump octane, 95 Australian RON.
    • Maximum power output may not be achieved when running lower rated fuels
  • Why Recalibrating/Tuning development must be performed on a marine dyno.

Thinking of Reflashing your engine, but heard horror stories at the boat ramp of engine failures?

The Nizpro Marine Testing Facility is at the core of why of NIZPRO tunes produce high performance gains without compromising engine reliability or longevity.

Our goal – Optimise engine performance to –
    1. Improve overall performance adding HP and torque, and adjusting rpm limits to broaden power curves
    2. Improved fuel efficiency at cruising rpm
    3. Give a greater torque spread and improved throttle response

Nizpro Marine Tunes are developed exclusively on our state-of-the-art Vertical Inhouse Marine Dyno which enables us to data log and recalibrate the complete tuning map that cannot be done accurately on the water.

  • A number of reasons why on-water tuning (only) makes it impossible to achieve reliable results – and why we use a static dyno cell.

On the water, you do not have the range of input sensors available to provide real time results, which allow for adjustments and calibrations for climate including atmospheric pressure and temperature. You can only calibrate to the atmospheric conditions on that day.
Tuners will normally try and listen to the engine to hear for spark knock. In boat, on water testing and boat noise make it near impossible to hear and very inaccurate.
Compare this to the engine working under every possible load, rpm and temperature condition that are adjustable on the dyno.

We are able to listen and monition audible spark knock and monitor internal cylinder pressure by measuring cylinder pressure through multiple sensors on individual cylinders all at one time, thousands of time per second.

Speed and boat movement – try sitting in a boat, holding onto a laptop computer at 100miles an hour, while dodging waves and other boats and you understand why a static dyno is so important.

Our state-of-the-art dyno also means we can log the 100’s of hours required to ensure that our tunes ensure the best performance possible.

  • What is knocking, and why you don’t want it!

Knocking (also knock, detonation, spark knock, pinging or pinking) in spark ignition, internal combustion engines occurs when the fuel-air charge in the cylinder combusts at the wrong time. The fuel-air charge is meant to be ignited by the spark plug only, and at a precise point in the piston’s stroke.

Knock occurs when the peak of the combustion process no longer occurs at the optimum moment for the four-stroke cycle.

The shock wave creates the characteristic metallic “pinging” sound, and cylinder pressure increases dramatically.

Effects of engine knocking can range from inconsequential to completely destruction.

Nizpro’s dyno tune development and stringent processes ensure that your engine will perform exactly as Yamaha designed it to.

F300 4.2 V6 OFFSHORE - 450s Supercharger Kit

Look what’s cooking!!

Activate “Beast Mode” on your rig with this easy recipe:

  • Add 1 * Nizpro 450s ECU Flash
  • Add 1* Nizpro 450s Supercharger kit
  • Get your boat to the water and prepare to have your mind blown… (now that your engine is also!!)

Described in a boat test article as both spellbinding and brilliant,  the Nizpro 450s Yamaha V6 will give you the incredible confidence in your rig. With its quiet brutal performance, powerful acceleration and improved fuel efficiency at normal cruising speeds, you need to think of it as having the torque of a diesel and the responsiveness of a petrol engine, and it all weighs in at over 150kg lighter than Yamaha’s 425hp petrol V8.

A Nizpro 450s Supercharged engine is ideally suited to use in boats looking for range, ability to haul decent mass, and ease of operation for prolonged periods of time. It delivers real world punch at suitable revs and will drink only as it needs, which is pretty miserly considering the performance you get. It is also quieter, by virtue of not having to work anywhere near as hard to get you where you want to go.

What about Value for Money?

Compared to running twin 300hp Yamaha V6 outboards, the Nizpro Marine Supercharged 450s Yamaha is over 200kg lighter with no additional drag through water and has no additional ongoing 2nd motor service costs!

Easy to install in under 4 hours, your Nizpro 450s kit comes complete with comprehensive  instructions where no additional parts or fabrication are required. Do it yourself OR have your marine technician do it for you!

Please note that all NIZPRO ECU Flashing Software is ONLY compatible with Windows Computers.

Nizpro Marine's Supercharged 450s - Teaser 2

Supercharger Kits Developed For Six-Cylinder Yamaha Outboards

Based in North Victoria, Australia, Nizpro Marine is set to release its supercharger upgrade kit for out-of-warranty six-cylinder, 4.2-liter Yamaha outboard engines. According to information on the company’s website, the direct-fit kit can be installed in a few hours and—with seven pounds of boost—ups power output of Yamaha’s V-6 Offshore and V-6 VMAX SHO outboards to 450 hp at 5,200 rpm.

nizpro 01

The key to the kit for Yamaha’s V-6 outboards is its Eaton TVS R1900 root-style supercharger (click image for full frame).

From the factory, Yamaha’s V-6 VMAX SHO series is offered in 200-, 225- and 250-hp versions. The V-6 Offshore series boast 225-, 250- and 300-hp models.

The key to the kit is its Eaton TVS R1900 root-style supercharger. According to Nizpro, the TVS supercharger’s “patented design features four-lobe rotors and high-flow inlet and outlet ports that greatly enhance thermal efficiency, deliver higher volumetric capacity, and enable higher operating speeds. The TVS supercharger reportedly is capable of running with a high thermal efficiency (up to 76 percent) across a very wide operating range.

“The superchargers twin four-lobe rotors feature 160-degree twists. The higher helix angle of the rotors coupled with a redesigned inlet and outlet ports, improves the TVS’s air-handling characteristics without increasing the overall size of the unit. The TVS improved noise and vibration characteristics eliminate additional noise-reduction treatments, complexity and system cost”

Nizpro has not released a price or a release date for its supercharger kit. Additional technical information and contact information is available on the company’s website.
