Nextbook Flexx 10 Troubleshooting

When pressed and held, the power button does not cause device to power on.

From the User Manual available for download at http://www.nextbookusa.com/productdetail

''Tablet does not turn on, what to do? It may be because the battery is completely discharged. Charge the tablet for at least 4 hours, and then press and hold the Power button for 3 seconds to turn on the tablet.

If using the tablet for the first time, or after a long period of idle time, charge the battery for more than half an hour before turning it on, to ensure system stability.''

If the battery is found to be faulty, the battery must be replaced.

To remove a low battery as a potential cause, connect the charger to the battery and plug the charger into a known-good power outlet. If the red charging light does not illuminate, proceed to the next step.

If the red charging light illuminates, but the device still does not power up, remove the battery and inspect the contact terminals on the battery and device for dirt, damage, or debris. If necessary, clean the individual contacts with rubbing alcohol, making sure to not allow the fluid to touch more than one contact at a time.

If contacts are clean and undamaged, charge battery for 30 minutes or longer, then check battery voltage with a multimeter to ensure 5 VDC is being output. TO CHECK BATTERY VOLTAGE OUTPUT, use a multimeter set to the 5 VDC range, and place the leads between the two battery connections for voltage. If battery voltage is good, then proceed to the next troubleshooting step.

To remove the charger as a potential cause, check to make sure that the proper charger is being used, and that the voltage and current being supplied to the device is what the device calls for (5VDC A). If the correct charger is being used, test for voltage using a multimeter set to measure DC Volts (DCV) to ensure that the charging port is outputting the correct voltage (5 VDC). Inspect the DC ports on the charger and device for damage. If there is no damage or debris on either port, the fault may be the device charger port or the power button.

If pressing and holding the power button for 5 seconds after performing the previous steps in the Device Will Not Power On section does not create any response, then the power button or device DC power port may be defective.

If pressing and holding the power button for 5 seconds after performing the previous steps in the Device Will Not Power On section does not create any response, then the power button or device DC power port may be defective. If the power port is defective, it must be replaced.

When connected, and the supplied charger plugged in, the battery does not charge at a normal rate (about 5 hours to full charge from full discharge).

From the user manual,

There are 3 main possible reasons for this problem: bad connection, improper temperature condition, damaged battery or adapter. As for bad connection, user should:

1. Check all connectors to ensure proper connectivity.

2. Unplug the supplied AC power adapter from the wall and verify that the outlet is functioning.

3. Check all cable connections, plug the adapter back into the tablet, and then plug back into the wall outlet.

And for improper temperature condition, i.e. the tablet's temperature is below 0 °C or higher than 35 °C, user should change the location and charge the battery in an ambient temperature between 0 °C to 35 °C. And if the battery or adapter has been damaged, contact an authorized reseller to replace the battery or power adapter."

If the battery is found to be faulty, the battery must be replaced.

If the battery is not charging at all, and the supplied charger is outputting the correct voltage, then the fault may be caused by a faulty DC power port. To check the DC power port, the case must be opened. A video showing the process can be found at Scotties Hobbies

When contact is made, the screen does not respond properly to user commands.

To remove narrator mode settings as a potential cause of improper response to touchscreen commands, the manual suggests the following:

You can touch Start > 19 Settings>Easy access>Narrator, then toggle the slider to turn off Narrator. Or press ESC and CapsLock button at the same time to turn off Narrator mode.

To remove a dirty screen as a potential cause of no improper response to touchscreen commands, follow the user manual’s instructions to clean the screen. The instructions are as follows:

After turning the tablet off,

1. Moisten a soft, lint free cloth with either water or a display cleaner, and wipe the surface of the tablet until it is clean. Do not allow water from the cloth to seep down to the tablet ports or buttons.

2. Remove any protective covers from the touch screen.

If the previous steps have failed to remedy the situation, turn the tablet off and then on again. If the fault is preventing a shutdown, follow the user manual’s instruction for a hard reset. To perform a hard reset, *** "Press and hold the Power button for 10 s to perform a hard shut down. Note: User will have to wait for about 8 seconds before turning on the tablet again after it shuts down."

If the previous steps have failed to remedy the situation, the screen may be defective. To replace the screen, carefully remove plastic casing with plastic pry tool, starting at the weakest point, and going around the screen, being especially carefully around the keyboard connector. A video showing the full replacement process can be found here:

Camera does not initiate or does not work properly.

If your webcam or Camera app in Windows 10 won’t open and you get an error message saying that we can’t find or can’t start your camera (including error codes 0xA00F or 0xF), the cause might be antivirus software that’s blocking the webcam or camera, or it could be an outdated webcam driver.

If the previous steps did not remedy the situation, the camera may be defective. To replace the camera, the back case needs to be taken off, and the camera unit removed and replaced. Instructions for accessing the camera here.

Device does not project sound from speakers or audio devices.

If no sound is coming from an interface device, such as headphones inserted into the mm audio jack, try another device or the integrated speakers. If sounds come out of other devices, then your interface device is the problem.

When device is turned on there is no sound coming from the speakers.

To set speakers to default

1. Click START, open SOUND under CONTROL PANEL

2. Click the PLAYBACK tab.

3. Select the SPEAKER icon.

4. Click SET AS DEFAULT.

5. Click APPLY and OK to save changes.

If sound comes out of the speakers, but not out of devices plugged into the mm audio jack, the audio jack may need to be replaced. Instructions for accessing the jack are here.

Ok, well first recharge it completely. Again. Then try starting it in "Safe Mode" to see if it will actually start up. If it does, then you have an app or other software that is messing with the device. It may not have kicked in until the tablet was turned off. So you will have to try and find what app/software is causing the problem. Then restart the device out of "Safe Mode". If it happens again, just start again in "Safe Mode" until you locate the problem.

To get into "Safe Mode" please do the following.

1. First turn off the tablet.

2. Next press and hold "Power" until you see the manufacturers logo on the screen, then release the power button.

3. "Quickly" press "Volume Down" and hold it for few seconds until you see the message "Safe mode: ON" or something similar.

4. If you wanted disable safe mode, simply repeat the steps above, and you should see "Safe Mode: Off" rather than On.

nextbook tablet problem

Nextbook NXA8QCB Troubleshooting

You hear nothing when using earphones.

If the sound is too low, you will not hear sound. First adjust the volume and make sure it is not muted (manually stopped sound). If the problem persists, try another set of earphones.

Check the plug on the earphones and make sure it is plugged into the earphone jack . When the earphone plug is partially plugged into the earphone jack the connection is poor. As you plug-in the plug into the earphone jack, make sure it is securely in the jack, and you feel a click as you push it in.

Your earphone cord may have kinks or breaks. The earphones may have been pulled from the cord. This can create a break in the connection often caused by twisting or pulling of the wire. Try using the earphones on another device or using different earphones. This will help to determine if it is the earphones or the earphone jack. If your tablet still has no sound replace the earphone jack. Please refer to the Nextbook NXA8QCB Earphone Jack Replacement Guide.

Many earphones/headphones works with most devices. But there are some that are not able to translate the sound signal from the earphone jack to the earphones/headphones. When this happens you are not able to use the earphones/headphones that you have. Please try another brand.

If you had sound before installing a new app, you may have a conflict with the newly installed app. A new app can look for the same information on the device and cause a conflict. This is caused by two apps trying to get the same information at the same time. Please uninstall the app and check if you have sound. If you do, check for patches for the app to solve conflicts.

You press the on button and your tablet does nothing.

If the device powers off and will not turn on after being charged, then locate the volume key and power key. Press down on both of those buttons and wait for a response. Plug in the power cable to continue to charge the battery for approximately 3 hours and then power the device back on. If the tablet is still unresponsive, follow the Nextbook NXA8QCB Battery Replacement Guide.

The tablet may not be holding a charge due to the battery being dead. When plugging the device into the charger, a light or display will appear on the screen. If no light or display appears, then a new charger and cable may be needed. If a light or display appears, then hold down the power button. If no response on the display, hold the power button and the volume button down until you see an Android logo. Navigate to menu for proper booting of device, leaving the tablet plugged in. Follow the Nextbook NXA8QCB Battery Replacement Guide to install a new battery that will hold a charge.

The screen shows the battery is connected to power but still won’t power on. Turn the screen side of the tablet face down. Carefully snap off the back cover. Locate the power connector (it’s white leading from the battery). Once located, disconnect the power connector from the tablet for about 30 seconds. After 30 seconds, reconnect back to tablet. Place the back cover piece back on to the tablet and power on.

If your tablet makes normal sounds, but there are no images, then it may be one of the following causes.

It may be a problem with the software and the device just needs to be restarted. Before restarting the device, ensure you have saved all files you want to keep to another computer or a micro SD card as reset will erase all content that did not come with the device. Switch off device by pressing and holding the volume up and the power button to reset.

The display is what provides the picture for the user. It is also used as a touch screen to access files and applications. If there is no picture, the display may be faulty. Remove and replace the display assembly in accordance with the Nextbook NXA8QCB Display Assembly Guide.

The display operates via a special "cable" called a "ribbon cable." This ribbon cable transfers the signal from the motherboard to the display to give you a "picture." It is possible for these ribbon cables to be broken or loose, causing the connection to be "broken." If this happens, you will need to open the device and re-seat wire connection or repair wires. In order to get to the wire/connections you must first refer to the Nextbook NXA8QCB Battery Replacement Guide. After that, refer to the Nextbook NXA8QCB Motherboard Replacement Guide to access display wires/connection.

When the front camera application is selected, the camera does not respond.

If the front camera does not respond when selected, either independently or through an application it may be a faulty driver. The easiest way to fix driver issues is to factory reset the device. Be sure to have your device backed up before proceeding, as a factory reset erases all data on the device. Turn the device off

1. Press and hold the “Power” and the “Volume up” button at the same time. Hold until you see the start-up logo on the screen.

2. When the logo appears, release the buttons. The system will enter “System Recovery Mode”.

3. Use the Volume up/down button to scroll through the options until you come to “Wipe data/factory reset”.

4. Press the power button to select “Wipe data/factory reset”.

5. Scroll down to the option labeled “Yes”.

6. Press the “Power” button to begin the reset.

The camera may have a bad connection internally, or need to be replaced. Follow the Nextbook NXA8QCB Front Camera Replacement Guide to check connections or replace camera.

When using the front camera, the images on the screen are not clear.

Check the front display to make sure it is clean and free of any smudges, dirt, or debris. Clean the display to be sure this is not the issue. Follow manufacturer guidelines for cleaning display. If the inside of the display seems dirty, follow the Nextbook NXA8QCB Display Assembly Guide for directions on getting to the inside of the display, then clean the inside of the display.

If the display is clean but images are still distorted, the camera lens itself may need cleaning. If this is the case, you will need to take apart the device to get to the front camera. Follow the Nextbook NXA8QCB Front Camera Replacement Guide for instructions on how to get to the camera. Inspect the lens for scratches, smears, or smudges. Clean the lens as needed by following the replacement guide on how to disconnect the camera, clean the lens following manufacturer recommendations, then return the cleaned camera following the replacement guide procedures.

How to fix NextBook 10.1 that won't turn on

How Do You Hard Reset a Nextbook Device?

By Staff WriterLast Updated April 6,

A combination of button presses resets a Nextbook Android device to factory settings. After charging the device and disconnecting from the charger, hold the up volume button while also depressing the power switch. Hold the two buttons until the Nextbook logo appears on the screen. Release both buttons and press the up volume button to display a menu. Navigate to Wipe Data Factory Reset and choose Yes to reset the device.

Resetting a device to factory settings is a last resort for those attempting to fix a problem or to start fresh on a used device. A hard reset this way is necessary whenever the settings menu on the device is inaccessible, whether because of a software problem or a lost or forgotten password. A factory reset, hard or soft, deletes all user records and data on the device, as well as any downloaded apps and purchases. App and purchase information remains at the Play Store for recovery after the reset.

Similar hard-reset mechanisms exist for many Android devices, from smartphones to Chromebooks. The specifics may differ based on device and version of Android, but the reason for performing the rest and end result are the same.
