Kunoichi Succession

Kunoichi Added the "Succession" content.

After Awakening the Kunoichi, accept the quest "[Kunoichi Succession] Pure Vengeance" from the Black Spirit to start the Succession quest series.

You will learn the skill "Succession: Lament of Silence" which will allow you to learn more powerful Shortsword and Kunai skills.

You will no longer be able to use your Sah Chakram skills.

Added the "Succession" tab to the Skill window. The skills in this tab are affected by the AP of both Main and Awakening Weapons.

You will be able to learn and use skills in both the "Main" and "Succession" tabs. However, if there is both an "Absolute" and "Succession" versions of the same skill, you must choose as you cannot use both versions of the skill.

To learn certain Succession skills, you will first need to learn the preceding skills from the "Main" tab first.

After completing the Succession quests and learning the skill "Succession: Lament of Silence," you can go back and forth between Succession and Awakening skills by resetting your skills.

To go from using Succession to Awakening skills, you need to reset your skills to unlearn "Succession: Lament of Silence."

To go from using Awakening to Succession skills, you need to reset your skills and relearn "Succession: Lament of Silence."

Introduction

Remember that class guides are a rough explanation of the class, designed to give you an idea of the class and what you should be aiming for. You should really adapt the guide and follow your own instincts to match your play-style! I also highly recommend looking at as many different sources as possible and gathering as much information as you can about your class before deciding what is best for you and how you play. The class discords are a great place to start, most have their own guides and resources as well as plenty of skilled players willing to help with questions.

The Shai class is completely unique class in BDO and is the only full support class. They do reduced damage in PVP and have far less skills than other classes but have healing skills and buff/debuff skills. Their main hand is a Florang, which is a boomerang, and their offhand is a lantern called a Vitclari. At level 56, Shai unlocks their “awakening” talents. Unlike other classes, Shai’s awakening is a “Sol” which summons various instruments for her to play, to buff allies and debuff her enemies. The Sol can be enhanced to give extra stats which empower her buffs.

I would personally not choose Shai as your main character if you are a new player. Shai requires two different gear sets to be effective and this is just not ideal for a new player. Some players do choose to gear a shai later on with defense gear only for large scale PVP, then they have a different class dedicated to PVE.

Shai is a very weak class in 1v1s due to her reduced PVP damage. However, she can be useful as a support class in small scale and large scale PVP. In low end PVE, Shai can be very strong due to her sustain and buff skills, as well as her high PVE damage using her Florang.

As well, Shai is useful as a life skill class and has increased life skill EXP passives as well as already starting as a Professional in Alchemy and Gathering. She also has a passive skill which increases her weight limit per level. Shai is also unique in other ways, such as being able to ride donkeys faster than other classes, and can also use special skills when riding certain donkeys.

GENERAL

Swing Swing
[LMB]

This is your auto attack skill with your Florang. The skill recovers MP per every good hit and is automatically taken when you level up.

Hop
[SHIFT + W]

This skill is a small dash and can be used in any direction using [SHIFT] and a directional key. It has a cooldown of 4 seconds but you can use the skill off cooldown. The skill has invincible on it whilst you are dashing but this does not apply if the skill is used whilst on cooldown. You also get a movement speed buff when using it and there is no collision whilst moving. It’s also very important to note that this skill can be used during some awakening skills whilst you are channelling (such as Shout to the Sky) and you will continue to play the song automatically when you finish dashing. This is excellent for repositioning or to quickly evade CC with an iframe.

Tuck-and-Roll
[W] + [F]

This skill is another mobility/dodge skill. Your character will roll forwards and have super armor while moving. The skill has no collision and gives an attack speed +20% buff for 10 seconds. This skill is one of your damaging Florang skills. The skill costs stamina and can be used to regen your mana. You can also swap from awakening to pre-awakening by using this skill.

One-Two-Three
[RMB]

This skill is one of your higher damage skills and can be spammed in PVE for high damage. It does have a 10 second cooldown but this can be ignored. The skill also inflicts stiffness to enemies if used off cooldown. It can also push/pull the enemy in PVE on good hits. This is also your 100% Black Spirit Rage skill, which adds super armor to the skill and a stun as well on good hits. The skil will also knock targets off their mount.

Hop-Three
[LMB] + [S]

This skill has forward guard and also has an All DP -10% debuff for 10 seconds to enemies on hit.

Kwik-Two
[RMB] + [S]

This skill gives an All Evasion Rate +3% buff for yourself for 5 seconds, as well as debuffing your enemy with Movement Speed -5% for 5 seconds and an All DP -10% debuff for 10 seconds.

[SHIFT + LMB]

This skill has 100% Accuracy Rate and will inflict a stun on good hits for a maxium of 10 targets. The skill also does some AoE damage in front of you and has super armor. The skill has a cooldown of 15 seconds.

SUPPORT SKILLS

Cheer Up!
[E]

This skill is one of your healing skills. It will give you and your allies (up to 10 targets) a buff which recovers 200 HP every 5 seconds for 60 seconds. The skill has a cooldown of 1 minute so you can keep the buff up at all times.

Come Out, Come Out
[Q]

This skill has super armor and must be channelled for 10 seconds. Your character will begin to skip forwards waving her lantern and any stealthed players will be revealled. The skill can also be used to reveal the names of players in a ghuille suit. As well as this, a DP +10 for 10 seconds buff will be applied to yourself, as well as a DP -10 for 10 sec debuff to enemies (PVP only). The skill can also be used to taunt monsters in PVE and has a 2 minute cooldown.

Get Well
[SHIFT] + [E]

This skill is your burst heal skill. It will heal up to 10 allies by 700 HP every second for 3 seconds. The skill has a 1 minute 30 second cooldown and should not be wasted. This is also your 200% Black Spirit Rage skill, which adds super armor to the skill and instead will heal by 500 HP every second for 10 seconds.

Over Here!
[SHIFT] + [Q]

This skill is known as the “Shai Protective Area (PA)” or “Shai bubble”. It creates a wall around you which allies and enemies cannot pass through for 5 seconds. It will block attacks from enemies outside the wall and also debuff enemies trapped inside with -50% attack/casting/movement speed for 2 seconds. You also have super armor while using the skill. The skill has a cooldown of 5 minutes and requires good communication and skill to pull off correctly. The skill cannot be cancelled so can often leave you or your allies vulnerable if used incorrectly. The wall is also hard to see and most of the time can end up doing more damage to your allies, as well as the range being quite small, making it hard for you to successfully catch someone in it.

Do it Better!
[E]

This skill is your E buff and increases you and your allies’ AP by +30, as well as giving a +5% Special Attack Damage buff for 30 seconds. The skill has a 3 minute cooldown, super armor when used, and can apply to a maximum of 10 allies.

Tuning
[LMB]

This skill heals yourself and up to 10 allies for HP Recover +150 per 3 sec while the skill is being channelled. It will also give MP/SP/WP Recovery +5% per 3 sec. You cannot move whilst playing the song, but can keep playing as long as you like once you’ve cast the skill. To cancel the skill, simply move your character.

Misty Haze
[Q]

This skill has 100% Accuracy Rate and will debuff up to 10 nearby enemies with All DP and Evasion Rate -10% for 20 seconds. The skill also has super armor on it whilst you are playing the instrument and you can also move your character while channelling the skill. Enhancing your Sol will increase the debuff effect on this skill. The skill has a cooldown of 30 seconds.

Delusive Light
[SHIFT + Q]

This skill has 100% Accuracy Rate and will debuff up to 10 nearby enemies with Cricital Hit Rate -50% and Movement Speed -10% for 20 seconds. The skill also has super armor on it whilst you are playing the instrument and you can also move your character while channelling the skill. Enhancing your Sol will increase the debuff effect on this skill. The skill has a cooldown of 30 seconds.

Sun, Moon, Stars
[F]

This skill will buff yourself and up to 10 allies with Attack/Casting/Movement Speed +5% for 30 seconds. The skill has a cooldown of 50 seconds. You can move your character while channelling the skill and enhancing your Sol will increase the effect on this skill. You can also choose to enhance this skill by taking the 3rd rank of the skill (III) but you will not be able to take the 3rd rank in Summer Rain, Shout to the Sky or Time to Shine!. Enhancing this skill will increase the base effects to Attack/Casting/Movement Speed +10% instead. It will also reduce the skill cooldown to 40 seconds.

Shout to the Sky
[S + F]

This skill is a strong heal for yourself and up to 10 allies. You will gain +700 Max HP for 30 seconds and also gain HP Recovery +400 while the skill is channelling. The skill has a cooldown of 50 seconds. You can move your character while channelling the skill. You can also choose to enhance this skill by taking the 3rd rank of the skill (III) but you will not be able to take the 3rd rank in Summer Rain, Sun, Moon, Stars or Time to Shine!. Enhancing this skill will increase the Max HP buff to +1500 for 30 seconds, and will also increase the HP Recovery to +500. It will also reduce the skill cooldown to 40 seconds.

Time to Shine!
[RMB]

This skill increases Black Spirit’s Rage Recovery by +0.3% for 20 seconds for yourself and up to 10 allies. The skill has a cooldown of 50 seconds. You can move your character while channelling the skill. You can also choose to enhance this skill by taking the 3rd rank of the skill (III) but you will not be able to take the 3rd rank in Summer Rain, Sun, Moon, Stars or Shout to the Sky. Enhancing this skill will increase the Black Spirit’s Rage Recovery to 0.45% for 20 seconds, and it will also reduce the skill cooldown to 40 seconds.

Summer Rain
[S + RMB]

This skill gives an All Debuff Resistance +10% for 20 seconds for yourself and up to 10 allies. The skill has a cooldown of 1 minute. You can move your character while channelling the skill. You can also choose to enhance this skill by taking the 3rd rank of the skill (III) but you will not be able to take the 3rd rank in Shout to the Sky, Sun, Moon, Stars or Time to Shine!. Skill Combos

  • Keys in square brackets [] mean that you tap the key. For example, [Q] means you tap Q once.
  • Keys in round brackets () mean that you hold the key. For example, (HOLD Q) means you hold Q until the next step. (PERMAHOLD Q) means you hold Q throughout the combo.
  • Keys separated by a “+” symbol should be used at the same time. For example, [Q] + [LMB] means you tap Q and LMB at the same time.
  • Keys separated by a “>” symbol show the order you should follow out the steps. For example, [Q] + [LMB] > [F] means you tap Q and LMB at the same time, then tap F
  • [LMB] refers to left-clicking with your mouse, [RMB] refers to right-clicking with your mouse.

Required skills: Hop, Swing Swing

(HOLD SHIFT) + (HOLD W) + (HOLD LMB)

This combo is used for mobility. If you hold SHIFT, W and LMB you can dash much faster by cancelling the animation at the end with an auto attack.

Required skills: Hop, Swing Swing, Tuck-and-Roll

(HOLD SHIFT) + (HOLD W) + (HOLD LMB) > (HOLD SHIFT) + (HOLD W) + (HOLD LMB) > (HOLD SHIFT) + (HOLD W) > (W) + (F)

This combo will keep you in invicible/super armor as much as possible and can be repeated.

Required skills: Hop, One-Two-Three

[W] + [SHIFT] > [RMB]

This combo is a faster transition into One-Two-Three. The dash cancels the animation at the beginning of the skill. You can also use this during mobility when you need to regen stamina again.

Required skills: Swing Swing, One-Two-Three

[LMB] > [RMB]

This combo cancels the animation of One-Two-Three and makes it slightly quicker and more efficient for grinding.

Required skills: Shout to the Sky, Time to Shine!, Sun, Moon, Stars, Summer Rain

[S] + [F] > [RMB] > [F] > [S + RMB]

These skills can be chained together smoothly without cancelling the animation of the flute playing.

Locked Skills

These are the skills I recommend locking to help prevent messing up combos during PVP:
Evasion

To lock a skill, press the lock icon on the top of each skill icon in the skill window (K).

Skill Add-ons

Below are some examples of viable skill add-ons you can take. I recommend experimenting with your add-ons and figuring out what is best for you, because it really depends on your personal preference and how you play your class. If you’re simply not sure what to take then you can blindly follow the examples below and they will still be effective.

PVX Skill Add-ons (HP Recovery)

icon[Level 50] Twirl

Instantly Recovers 6 HP per hit

icon[Level 52] Hop-Three

All Evasion +5% for 10 sec. for self

icon[Level 54] Twirl-Three

Critical Hit Rate +30% for 9 sec. for self
Instantly Recovers 10 HP per hit

PVX Skill Add-ons (Damage/Dots/Debuff)

icon[Level 50] Hop-Three

Attack Speed -7% for 7 sec. for target
Casting Speed -10% for 7 sec. for target

icon[Level 52] Eat This!

Inflicts 60 Burn Damage per 3 sec. for 9 sec. for target
Inflicts 42 Bleeding Damage per 3 sec. for 15 sec. for target

icon[Level 54] One-Two-Three

Movement Speed -10% for 7 sec. for target
Inflicts 54 Pain Damage per 3 sec. for 12 sec. for target

Weapons/Armor

The best weapons in the game are currently dropped from World Bosses.
For more information on this click here to view our World Bosses guide.

Primary Weapons:

iconRosar Florang
The Rosar Florang is what you should be aiming for to level your character. You should enhance it to at least +7 for leveling and then PRI or higher as soon as possible if you don’t have Liverto/Kzarka. Aim to buy a +15 Rosar Florang if you can to save your enhancing resources. Ideally you will want to buy or make it ultimate (yellow) to close the AP difference as well. Make sure you also make use of the gem slots to get your Attack Speed and Critical Hit up to 5.

Another alternative is the Styd Florang for leveling if you are having trouble obtaining a Rosar Florang. This weapon can be bought from a Blacksmith and will give you 18 – 22 AP as well as a lot of accuracy.

iconLiverto Florang
Liverto is the fourth strongest mainhand and much easier to obtain and enhance than Kzarka. I personally would not invest in a Liverto because it will just slow your progression. Go to a kzarka as early as possible. If you do already have liverto and have already invested into it, you will want to upgrade it to PRI or higher as soon as possible. I would recommend getting it to TRI at most and then you really want to switch to Kzarka. The liverto has slightly more AP than Rosar, but it also has a Critical Hit Rate +3 item effect.

iconKzarka Florang
Kzarka is the main weapon you will be using. It has the same AP as Liverto but more accuracy and an Attack Speed +3 item effect.

iconOffin Tett’s Radiant Florang
Offin Tett weapons are usually not worth investing in because of the loss in accuracy. It can help you push to the next AP bracket but at higher AP brackets the extra AP you get is smaller and you’ll be losing hit chance % at the same time on both your preawakening and your awakening. So really you’re actually losing damage overall since you won’t be hitting the enemy as much (unless they are full DR). Offin Tett can be good when you reach certain AP brackets and if your class doesn’t depend on accuracy as much as others, but if you’re unsure whether you should be using this weapon or not, it’s much safer to just use Kzarka.

iconBlackstar Florang

Blackstar is considered the current best in slot mainhand weapon with higher base AP than Kzarka. It must be crafted using items in Star’s End and then following a questline. The weapon is also harder to enhance so most players only switch to Blackstar once they already have TET Kzaraka and very high AP with no easier upgrades. It has a Damage to All Species +10 and Attack Speed +3 item effect, as well as other bonuses when enhanced. The weapon cannot be enhanced with Caphras stones though. Blackstar is considered best for PVE at endgame but eventually a PEN Kzarka will outscale.

Offhand Weapons:

iconOros Vitclari
Oros Vitclari is your AP offhand and is viable as a cheap alternative for PVE.

iconRosar Vitclari
Rosar Vitclari is your Evasion offhand and is viable as a cheap alternative for DP builds and PVP.

iconKutum Vitclari
This lantern gives a mixture of AP and DP with added monster damage and accuracy. The Kutum weapons also have a 10% ignore resistance. The higher AP makes this weapon a best in slot for PVE. It also has 2 crystal slots. The Kutum vitclari can also be modified using an Inverted Hearth of Garmoth to give extra stats (Max HP +150, Max Stamina +100, Special Attack Evasion Rate +10%). This offhand is currently considered best in slot for PVP as well because of the higher DP, since Shai currently has reduced damage in PVP.

iconNouver Vitclari
Nouver gives pure AP and an all resistance +10% item effect and can be modified using an Inverted Hearth of Garmoth to give extra stats (Max HP +150, Max Stamina +100, Special Attack Evasion Rate +10%). This offhand is currently not recommended on Shai because of their reduced damage in PVP. Kutum is currently preferred for the extra DP.

Awakening Weapons:
Unlike other classes, Shai does not have a dandelion weapon and cannot open awakening boxes. She recieves 2 awakening weapons when completing the awakening/talent quests:

iconCanon Sol
Canon Sol is given to you during your talent quests and it cannot be deleted. This item cannot be enhanced and comes with some base Stats. The weapon gives AP 38 ~ 47, and the following Item Effects:
[Misty Haze] All Evasion Rate, DP reduction effect +3%, [Delusive Light] Movement Speed reduction effect +3%, [Sun, Moon, Stars] All Speed increase effect +3%

iconArtina Sol
Artina Sol is given to you when you complete all of your talent quests and the item cannot be deleted. This item can be enhanced and has lower base stats than the Canon Sol, but once enhanced it quickly outscales the Canon Sol in the item effects and AP. Unlike other awakening weapons, the Artina Sol cannont be enhanced with Caphras Stones. The only way to recieve another Artina Sol is to compelete the Talent quests on a fresh Shai character, so you will need to use memory fragments to repair this item.

Armor:

The best armor in the game is currently dropped from Bosses. You will want to aim to get the boots and gloves first.

iconGriffon’s Helmet (helmet)– dropped from Griffons in Kamaslyvia.
iconDim Tree Spirit’s Armor (chest)– dropped from Dim Tree Spirit.
iconBheg’s Gloves (gloves) dropped from Bheg.
icon Urugon’s Shoes (shoes) – dropped from Urugon (Gaifinrasia Raid Captain Scroll).

iconGiath’s Helmet (helmet)alternative choice– dropped from Giath.
iconMuskan’s Shoes (shoes)alternative choice– dropped from Monastery Leader.

The current best in slot armor is Griffon’s Helmet, Dim Tree Spirit’s Armor, Bheg’s Gloves and Urugon’s Shoes.

The full set will give you Maximum MP/WP/SP +100, Maximum HP +200, Max Stamina +200, Attack Speed +1, Casting Speed +1, Movement Speed +1 and All Resistances 5%. You will also get higher Accuracy, Evasion and Damage Reduction from these pieces.

In the mean time you should be using one of the following armor sets:

A popular armor choice is to go full Grunil set because it increases your maximum HP and will give you 2 socket slots on each piece, along with extra AP +7 set bonus. Another advantage of using this set is that it is viable on any class, allowing you to swap to another class easily.

Full Heve set is also a very popular choice and what I recommend for new players because it has an easier transition to boss gear whilst. As soon as you get one boss item with Grunil, you lose the set bonuses which Grunil weaker.

Another alternative is to use is the Akum set. It has comparable stats to boss armor and also a very useful set effect that gives Damage Reduction and Hidden AP. If you are unable to get boss armor, then the Akum set is a good cheap alternative that will be good for both PVP and PV. Investing in this set may slow you down in your progression towards softcap, but is much cheaper once you factor in repairing and enhancing.

Accessories

There are a lot of choices available when it comes to accessories and it really depends on what you can get your hands on. Below are accessories for AP (PVE) builds. If you are looking for DP accessories you can find more information in the example builds section.

Earrings:

If available I recommend using the Asula’s Crimon Eye Earrings (Asula Set) if you are new to the game, this gives you 7 AP and also has very good set bonuses. Otherwise use Bares earrings for 2 AP and switch to Witch’s Earring as soon as possible for the 5 AP.

You want to aim for DUO/TRI Witch’s Earrings (9 AP/11 AP) before swapping to a DUO Tungrad Earrings (11 AP) because of the huge difference in cost. Tungrad Earrings are one of the best earrings you can get. The other alternative is Black Distortion Earrings which give the highest amount of AP (21 AP at PEN), but reduce your DP as well.

The Capotia Earring is also worth mentioning. It is available at level 62+ only but is a very good earring because of it’s high AP. It makes a perfect backup for enhancing and is essentially a free TRI Tungrad Earring.

Rings:
If available I recommend using the Asula’s Crimon Eye Ring (Asula Set) if you are new to the game, this gives you 7 AP and 2 DP as well as damage reduction and strong set bonuses. Otherwise use Bares rings for 2 AP and switch to Mark of Shadow as soon as possible for the 5 AP.

Sahazad’s Ring of Monarch is also available through the Valencia part I and II quests. It can’t be enhanced but it is a good alternative until you can get Ring of Crescent Guardian or Mark of Shadow to PRI/DUO.

The current best in slot, is a Tungrad Ring.

The Capotia Ring is also worth mentioning. It is available at level 61+ only but is a very good ring because of it’s high AP. It makes a perfect backup for enhancing and is essentially a free TRI Ring of Crescent Guardian.

Necklace:

If available I recommend using the Asula’s Crimon Eye Necklace (Asula Set) if you are new to the game, this gives you 11 AP and 3 DP as well as damage reduction and an amazing set bonus. Otherwise use Bares Necklace for 4 AP and enhance this to DUO/TRI for 8 AP/10 AP. Enhancing a Bares Necklace is much cheaper than using an un-enhanced BiS necklace. You then want to swap to a DUO Serap’s or PRI Ogre/Tungrad.

The Manos Necklaces are also an alternative for PvP, if you don’t have a DUO Seraps already, due to their item effects. I personally wouldn’t bother with them though because you will want as much AP as possible.

Belt:

If available I recommend using the Asula’s Crimon Eye Belt (Asula Set) if you are new to the game, this gives you 6 AP and has amazing set bonuses. Otherwise use Bares Belt for 2 AP and swap to Tree Spirit Belt as soon as possible for more AP and high accuracy.

You want to aim for a PRI/DUO Tree Spirit Belt before swapping to DUO Basilisk’s because it is much cheaper and easier to get hold of. Basilisk’s Belt and Valtarra are very good belts but Tungrade is currently the best in slot.

Example Gear Builds

I highly recommend using BDOPLANNER.COM to help you plan your build and track your progression.

The build you choose completely depends on what you plan to do with your Shai. If you are planning to mass PVP and also grind PVE then you will need 2 seperate gear sets. Below are some example “meta” builds to put you on the right track.

Glass Cannon AP – [LINK]
Here is what to eventually aim for if you choose to PVE on a shai. The build is a full glass cannon AP build and not very effective for large scale PVP. This includes best in slot items. Check the accessories section for more information on the accessories and how to build up your AP over time.

Damage Reduction Hybrid – [LINK]
Here is a damage reduction and AP hybrid. It is perfectly fine for grinding lower tier spots and works well in large scale PVP. You can also use any other green grade helmet. I would actually advise using Heve if possible so that if you go the full DP build you can make use of the set bonsus.

Evasion Hybrid – [LINK]
Here is an evasion and AP hybrid. It is perfectly fine for grinding lower tier spots and works well in large scale PVP. You can also use any other green grade helmet. I would actually advise using Heve if possible so that if you go the full DP build you can make use of the set bonsus.

Full DP – [LINK]
Here is what toeventually aim for if you are going to be doing large scale PVP on a Shai. It takes a long time to get to this stage, and this particular build uses items which are not included in the other builds, such as Heve Helmet and Heve Gloves. You can use other green grade helmets and gloves but these 2 items will also give you a set bonus.

For your accessories, you should prioritize Centaurus Belt, Bensho Necklace, Manos Earrings, and finally Cadry Rings last. Use items from the hybrid builds and slowly transition to full DP.

Cosumables

When grinding, use EXP Elixirs and Milk Tea with a food rotation (Special Valencia Meal, Jumbo King of Jungle Hamburg and Special Kamaylvia Meal) or you can just use the Simple Cron Meal and Beast’s Draught.

For your food rotation in PVP (node wars/siege), I would recommend using King of Jungle Hamburger, Special Kamaslyvia Meal, Special Valencia Special and Special Serendia Meal in that order. This requires a 2 hour preperation. If you are late or lazy, you can use Exquisite Cron Meal. I would also recommend using the Giant’s Draught or party elixirs.

The recipes for these are:

In addition, you may want to use Perfume of Courage (buff lost on death) and Tough Whale Tendon Elixirs. Usually these are not required for node wars.

Black Desert Online: A Complete Guide To The Shai Class

There are 23 different classes to choose from in Black Desert Online, and it can be a bit overwhelming. Each class has its own benefits, and deciding the right class can take a while. This guide is going to go over everything you need to know about the Shai class.

Related: Black Desert Online: Every Way To Get Black Crystal Shards

The Shai is a small, female character that excels in leveling up life skills. They are also incredibly versatile and capable of dealing a high amount of damage. We are going to look at all possible Shai skills, as well as how to maximize your time playing as this class.

Shai Characteristics and Weapons

The Shai is probably the cutest class in Black Desert Online. Originally hailing from the town of Florin, the Shai is an expert in gathering and alchemy. Her passive abilities focus on life skills, allowing her to become a master gatherer and alchemist.

As a Shai, your main weapon is a florang and your sub-weapon is a vitclari. The florang is a boomerang-like weapon that you can throw at enemies. A vitclari is essentially a little orb that can help boost AP or DP. Additionally, a few healing skills come from your vitclari.

Unlike other classes, the Shai does not have an Awakening. Once you hit level 56, you will be able to learn different songs on a Sol. This is an instrument that will give different buffs depending on the tune that is played. Rather than traveling to defeat enemies and gain a new weapon, you will just travel to different cities, gathering new pieces.

The quest is straightforward and pretty easy to complete. After gathering songs and your new Sol, you will be able to spread your music throughout the battlefield!

Is Shai A Supporting Class?

Overall, the Shai is a supporting class. She has several abilities that buff and heal allies, which is essential to playing with friends.

On her own though, the Shai is a formidable foe. Because she doesn't have an Awakening, she is able to deal a lot of damage while at lower levels. Don't be worried about the amount of damage you will deal while playing as a Shai, she can stand on her own. Through proper gear and weapon enhancement, you should be strong enough to progress solo throughout the world.

Skills

Shai skills are simple and easy to get the hang of; almost every attack deals with the florang. Through leveling up, you will be able to activate and upgrade new skills with skill points. You will be able to reset skill points, so if you upgrade the wrong skill, you can change it later. Below, you can check out all the main and secondary skills for Shai that appear in the ability menu in the game. To access this page, press K.

Main Skills

Swing Swing: Swing your florang at an enemy. (level 1)

Twirl: Throw your florang while running sideways. This can be used to avoid enemy attacks. (level 1)

Go Away: Kick enemies in front of you, launching them in the air. (level 1)

One-Two-Three: Use this basic attack to throw your florang up to three times. (level 1)

Kwik-Two: Throw your florang while dodging and moving backward. (level 9)

Twirl-Three: Spin and throw your florang in addition to providing immunity for debuffs. (level 11)

Eat This!: Throw your florang forward with two hands. This is reckless but has the longest range out of any skill.  (level 13)

Hop-Three: Avoid damage from the front by spinning/hopping while throwing your florang. (level 5)

Secondary Skills

Evasion: Evade in any direction. (level 1)

Sprinkle-Sparkle: Restore skill resources to all allies, and steals skill resources from if used on an enemy. (level 1)

Hop: Hop in any direction. (level 1)

Tuck-and-Roll: Roll away from danger, with attack speed increasing for a few seconds after the roll. (level 1)

Play Dead: Trick enemies into thinking you are dead. This does not work on monsters. (level 50)

Outta My Way!: Push back all nearby enemies, while gaining AP. (level 1)

Gather Around!: Gather all nearby enemies around you. (level 40)

Cheer Up!: Heal all allies and yourself. (level 7)

Come Out, Come Out: Reveal any camouflaged enemy nearby. (level 40)

Get Well: Heal all allies and yourself with a 'breeze'. This breeze will push away nearby enemies. (level 36)

Over Here!: Create a protective area for yourself and your allies.  (level 55)

Above, you can see all Shai main and secondary abilities. These abilities are strong for PvE, however, she doesn't have the best AoE attacks. A Florang can sweep around and hit a few enemies, but it isn't great for wiping out large crowds.

Try to stick to smaller groups of enemies when you are playing as a Shai. It is very easy to get overwhelmed by the number of enemies that surround you.

Passive Abilities

Next, we are going to look at the passive abilities of the Shai. As you will see, these abilities aren't geared toward combat. A lot of the passives involve alchemy and gathering. These passives are great for life skills, however, they will not greatly affect your combat.

Below, you can find every passive that appears in the ability menu in the game. Additionally, there are three Black Spirit abilities and three Node War/Conquest abilities. The Black Spirit abilities will unlock through level progression, but the Node War/Conquest abilities will only unlock during these events.

Infinite Mastery: Passive for every class to boost HP. (level 50)

Skilled Hunter: Deal higher damage by finding weak spots on monsters. (level 56)

Gathering Whiz: Gather faster. (level 1)

Joy Of Gathering: Gathering provides +300% combat EXP. (level 15)

Light Bag: Increased inventory weight limit. (level 1)

Alchemy Whiz: Do alchemy faster. (level 1)

Joy Of Alchemy: Alchemy provides +300% combat EXP. (level 15)

Black Spirit Skills

Rage Absorption: Use Black Spirit energy to gain a buff. (level 35)

Rage Transfer: Transfer Black Spirit energy to someone else. (level 35)

Emergency Escape: Quickly escape when you are low on HP. (level 1)

Node/Conquest War Skills

Yianros's Light: Resist Magical Attacks. (level 56)

Pilgrim's Steps: Increased ability to dodge attacks. (level 56)

Knight's Defense: Resist Melee Attacks. (level 56)

Node/Conquest war participation is completely optional in Black Desert Online. Feel free to focus on other parts of the game instead. It's completely okay to focus your attention on life skills while playing as a Shai.

Talents

Finally, we have Shai talents. With you Sol, you can play a variety of songs that will affect those around you. It is important to remember when you play these songs, that you will be basically standing still. Some songs may seem great for lowering the defense of enemies, but if you are by yourself, it is quicker to just attack them with your florang. These songs are great if you play with others, though.

Since you are playing music in the area, these effects will be felt by any nearby ally and enemy. Additionally, each song will affect up to ten people.

Do It Better!: Increase AP. (level 56)

Tuning: Healing. (level 56)

Sun, Moon, Stars: Increase attack, casting, and movement speed. (level 56)

Shout To The Sky: Increase HP. (level 56)

Time To Shine!: Increase the rate at which Black Spirit Rage is gathered. (level 56)

Summer Rain: Debuff resistance. (level 56)

Misty Haze: Decreased evasion rate and DP for enemies. (level 56)

Delusive Light: Decrease movement speed, accuracy, AP, and critical hit rate for enemies. (level 57)

Forest's Echos: Stop enemies from moving. (level 57)

Sun's Fury: Burn enemies with the sun. (level 58)

Earth's Tremble: Deals 'earthquake' damage and stuns enemies. (level 59)

Florin Leaves

In the top right corner of your screen, you will see HP and MP. HP is your health, and MP is essentially your magic stamina. Certain skills will drain your MP, while others restore it. Using a range of skills will ensure that you never run out of MP.

Under MP, you will see three little leaves. These are your florin leaves. Each time you land a skill, these leaves will increase until you have all three filled in green.

Once you gather three leaves, you will be able to use the Outta My Way! skill. This move will activate when you press the spacebar. As mentioned above, enemies will be pushed back and your AP will increase. This skill comes in handy if you are surrounded by enemies. Push them out of your way and attack with your florang.

Skill Enhancements

At levels 56, 57, and 58, you will have the opportunity to enhance your skills. We are going to go over the skills at each level.

Level 56

At this level, you will be able to enhance Come Out, Come Out or Cheer Up.

  • Come Out, Come Out will lead into Over There!, which will send out light from your vitclari to chase enemies and do damage. Choose this skill if you are focusing on dealing damage, rather than being a supporting class.
  • Cheer Up will lead to Sharing is Caring, which sends out light from your vitclari to follow and heal allies. If you want to focus on being a supporting class, chose this skill.

Level 57

At this level, you will be able to enhance Eat This! or One-Two-Three.

  • Eat this will lead into Twirl Boom!, which collects energy in your florang to be thrown at enemies.
  • One-Two-Quick will lead into Tumble Wumble!, which allows you to throw the florang very low, tripping enemies in your path.

Both of these skills deal roughly the same amount of damage, so the choice is up to you.

Level 58

At this level, you will be able to enhance Come Out, Come Out for the second time, or Get Well.

  • Come Out, Come Out can be enhanced at level 58 again. Enhancing it will lead to Now!, which allows you to jump high into the air and reveal all camouflaged enemies.
  • Get Well will lead into Careful!, which allows you to jump high in the air and heal all of your allies' HP.

Camouflage-revealing skills sound good, but overall, they aren't the most useful. Choose Careful! to add another healing skill, boosting your performance as a support class.

Tips For Playing As Shai

Now, let's go over some tips for playing as a Shai. It is very important to enhance all of your equipment. This goes for pretty much every class. Summon the Black Spirit to check which pieces of equipment you can enhance.

Black Desert Online is unique in that you don't have to follow the main story or participate in dungeons. This sandbox MMO lets you do pretty much anything you want. This may be confusing for new players.

If you want to follow a story and gain new weapons, consider making a Seasonal character. Seasonal characters progress through the main story, gaining new and powerful equipment. It's easy to level up and build a great character. When the season ends, your character will be converted to 'normal', and you will be able to either keep or trade in your gear. Playing a seasonal character is a great way to introduce yourself to the world of Black Desert Online.

Let's look at combat and skills now. Shai combat abilites are simple. Throw your florang to deal damage, while avoiding attacks from enemies. She really shines with her ability to heal others though. Level up your healing skills to get the most out of this supporting class.

There are a lot of songs to choose from. If you are new to Black Desert Online, then it may be difficult to prioritize skills and songs. When you first unlock the Sol, try focusing on just a few songs. For example, you can focus on healing with Tuning and Shout to the Sky. If you ever feel overwhelmed with skills and songs, remember to add some to your hotbar.

Lastly, don't forget to work on life skills. With the life skill passives, you shouldn't slack on alchemy and gathering. Upon creation, your Shai will be Professional 1 in both alchemy and gathering. Don't let this go to waste!

Shais have the unique ability to create a bonfire. This object increases ally HP and energy and cures hypothermia. This consumable item can be crafted and placed. It's incredibly useful while playing with others.

Overall, play as a Shai for PvE combat. She excels in evasion and dealing damage. Unfortunately, she has PvP damage reduction. Because of this, she is less than ideal for PvP combat. If you are interested in PvP, try picking another class.

Now, you should know the basics of playing Shai. Get out there and explore the world!
